Double Ditch Indian Village contains the remains of a Mandan Indian settlement, including the remains of earth lodges, midden mounds and fortification ditches, described by interpretive signs posted throughout the site. The village was occupied by the Mandan Indians from about 1500 until 1781, when it was abandoned as the result of a smallpox epidemic in the region. It sits next to the Missouri River 10 miles north of Bismarck.
