Begun as a farm for domesticated animals, the Dakota Zoo has grown into an 88-acre animal sanctuary with more than 600 animals on display. Visitors munch on hotdogs, popcorn and other treats while viewing such creatures as parrots, monkeys, and bobcats. The zoo lies just north of downtown, above Hillside Park.
