The North Dakota Heritage Center is a historical museum, state archive and research library rolled into one. Covering the entire range of regional history, from geography and prehistory to the war and depression of the early 1900s, the museum provides a comprehensive look into the state's intriguing past. Special exhibits in its gallery areas change frequently and have presented authentic artifacts and other displays on such topics as the artwork of famous local nun Sister Rosalia, the story of television's arrival in North Dakota in the 1950s and a look into the series of horrific storms and floods that ravaged the state in the mid-1990s. The center lies on the grounds of the State Capitol, next to the Liberty Memorial Building.
